Operations Engineer – Azure Kubernetes & Istio Specialist

About the role

We are looking for an Operations/System Engineer to join our team in Brussels on a six‑month freelance contract, with the possibility of extension. The role focuses on Azure Kubernetes (AKS) environments, Istio service mesh, and related Azure services, providing second‑line support and automation for our operational and development teams.

Key responsibilities

• Assist development teams with integration setups on Azure Service Mesh, Azure Storage, Event Hub and Event Grid.
• Assess incoming requests, prepare configurations, and coordinate with firewall and other infrastructure teams.
• Gradually hand over setups to the operational team and improve deployment automation.
• Develop and maintain scripts (PowerShell, Bicep, Bash) and CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and Argo CD.
• Support middleware operations, debug issues using monitoring tools (Splunk, Dynatrace) and Azure monitoring.
• Provide training and knowledge transfer to the operational team.

Required profile

• At least 5 years of experience in system or operational engineering.
• Strong background in Azure cloud services, especially AKS, Storage, Event Hub, Event Grid, Monitoring and security.
• Hands‑on experience with Istio service mesh deployment and management.
• Proven ability to automate processes and support 2nd‑line operations.
