Nematologist Scientist – Research & Development

About the role

Join BASF's Seed and Traits R&D team in Ghent, Belgium as a Nematologist Scientist. You will lead the design, development and validation of nematode‑resistant traits for major crops, translating cutting‑edge research into commercial solutions that support sustainable agriculture.

Key responsibilities

• Propose and develop innovative nematode trait concepts aligned with business objectives.
• Design, execute and oversee nematode control assays, ensuring robust, high‑quality data.
• Collaborate with internal scientists, technicians and external partners to assess scientific competitiveness.
• Monitor project progress, report findings, and make data‑driven decisions to meet critical milestones.
• Communicate results and new opportunities to stakeholders across the organization.

Required profile

• PhD or equivalent experience in Nematology, Plant Pathology, Molecular Biology or a related field.
• Proven track record in trait research, preferably within crop protection or seed technology.
• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to design rigorous experiments.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Required skills

• Expertise in nematode biology and control strategies.
• Experience with molecular genetics techniques for trait development.
• Proficiency in designing and interpreting bioassays.
