Mechanical Technician 2 – Data Center

About the role

The Data Center team designs and operates some of the most sophisticated mechanical and HVAC systems in the world. As a Mechanical Technician 2 you will operate, monitor and support physical facilities conditions in a Google data center, providing daily assistance to senior technicians while ensuring safety and efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain and repair data‑center mechanical systems such as chillers, air handling units, pumps and CRAC/CRAH units.
• Read blueprints and schematics, conduct system tours and assess equipment condition.
• Develop and implement cost‑reduction and efficiency improvements.
• Ensure environmental and safety standards are met and respond to emergencies or abnormal conditions.
• Collaborate with contractors performing upgrades or maintenance on data‑center infrastructure.

Required profile

• Associate's degree, trade school certification or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum 2 years of mechanical or HVAC experience in an industrial or commercial environment.
• Ability to lift and move up to 50 lb (23 kg) and use safety equipment such as harnesses, platforms and ladders.
• Willingness to work non‑standard hours, rotations or shifts.
• Preferred: 5 years of experience with mechanical/cooling distribution systems, data‑center, hospital or power‑plant environments.
