Mechanical Design Engineer – Tool Design & Technical Support

About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a specialist company that designs and manufactures custom precision tooling for industrial extrusion processes. The role combines full‑cycle product development with technical support for sales and client teams, ensuring each tool meets exacting performance and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end 3D tooling design using CAD, from specification gathering to first workshop trials.
• Participate actively in sampling, pre‑series production, and field trials.
• Validate finished tools with high‑precision measuring instruments and tolerance checks.
• Develop optimized geometric solutions that balance performance, material limits, and process feasibility.
• Conduct thermal and mechanical simulations to verify design choices.
• Provide structured technical support to commercial teams, analysing client projects and guiding decisions.
• Interact directly with clients via phone, Teams, and occasional on‑site visits to discuss technical aspects.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Materials Science or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in CAD/DAO, preferably in tooling, extrusion, moulding or precision mechanics.
• Fluent in Dutch, English and French.
• Hands‑on, autonomous, curious and comfortable working in a close‑knit team.

Required skills

• Proficiency with 3D modelling software such as SolidWorks, CATIA or Inventor.
• Experience with thermal or mechanical simulation tools (e.g., Ansys, Comsol).
• Strong metrological rigour – comfortable using measuring instruments and managing tolerance requirements.
• Solid understanding of CAD/DAO workflows and precision mechanics.
