Manager, Government Affairs and Policy

About the role

Mastercard is seeking an experienced Manager of Government Affairs and Policy to lead its public‑policy engagement with EU institutions. Based in Brussels and reporting to the Vice President Government Affairs EU, the role will shape advocacy on a portfolio of strategic topics that affect Mastercard’s payments business across Europe.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute policy, legislative and regulatory strategies for priority areas such as the Savings & Investment Union, open banking, Digital Fairness Act, tokenisation, B2B payments and sustainability initiatives.
• Build and maintain relationships with EU and member‑state legislators, regulators and opinion leaders to influence outcomes that support Mastercard’s interests.
• Coordinate with country GAP managers to align advocacy efforts and ensure consistent messaging across the region.
• Monitor policy developments, prepare briefing materials and provide strategic advice to internal stakeholders.
• Support the Vice President Government Affairs EU with budgeting, reporting and internal coordination of government‑affairs activities.
• Represent Mastercard at public consultations, industry forums and stakeholder meetings.

Required profile

• Proven track record as a high‑achieving government‑relations executive, preferably within the technology or payments sector.
• Strong analytical mindset, intellectual curiosity and ability to translate complex policy issues into business‑relevant insights.
• Professional written and spoken English; additional EU languages are an asset.
• Excellent interpersonal skills for developing relationships at senior levels across public and private organisations.
• Experience managing multi‑stakeholder projects and influencing legislative processes.
