Legal Officer – Internal Market Division

About the role

The Internal Market Division (IMD) of EFTA seeks a motivated Legal Officer to provide expert legal advice on the EEA Agreement and support cooperation with EEA EFTA States and EU partners.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver legal services and advice to EEA EFTA States and IMD colleagues across a range of policy areas covered by the EEA Agreement.
• Draft Decisions of the EEA Joint Committee to incorporate relevant EU legal acts into the EEA Agreement.
• Prepare legal and explanatory notes related to the management of the EEA Agreement.
• Collaborate closely with IMD policy officers, administrative coordinators, the Registrar and other members of EFTA’s EEA legal team.
• Work with Ministries in the EEA EFTA States, EFTA Missions to the EU and EU counterparts on the incorporation of EU legislation.
• Contribute to EFTA’s outreach activities by delivering trainings, presentations and seminars on the EEA Agreement.
• Undertake additional non‑legal and administrative tasks as required by workload and IMD needs.

Required profile

• University master’s degree in law.
• At least five years of relevant experience in a national administration, international organisation or comparable private‑sector role.
• Demonstrated experience with EEA or EU law.
• Excellent analytical abilities and a results‑oriented mindset.
• Strong capability to draft clear, concise legal texts and opinions in English.
• Outstanding organisational and communication skills.
• Self‑reliant, autonomous yet effective in team‑oriented environments.
• Flexible, service‑minded and proactive attitude.
