Field Service Engineer (Customer Engineer)

About the role

Applied Materials, a global leader in materials science and engineering solutions for semiconductors and advanced displays, is hiring a Field Service Engineer (also called Customer Engineer) in Leuven, Belgium. The engineer acts as the direct liaison with the customer, installing, maintaining and upgrading equipment, using digital analytics for troubleshooting and applying basic diagnostic techniques.

Key responsibilities

• Complete quality repairs on Applied Materials equipment and respond to fab issues by communicating with engineers in other locations and taking part in escalation conference calls
• Ensure correct procedures and schematics are available before starting work
• Perform retrofits on equipment and assist with process issues
• Assume responsibility for full customer satisfaction and maintain excellent relations
• Follow all safety procedures and demonstrate safety as a value
• Identify process gaps, propose improvements and recommend new processes to improve operational efficiency

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant science or engineering discipline
• Practical hands-on experience in mechanical, electrical and electronic work
• Semiconductor industry experience is desirable
• Preferred: 2-4 years of customer or field service support experience
• Ability to lead without authority and build strong relationships with internal and external customers
• Problem-solving approach and out-of-the-box thinking

Required skills

• Hands-on work with electricity and use of hand and power tools
• Ability to work in a noisy environment and in a clean room, wearing appropriate PPE such as coveralls, hoods, boots, safety glasses, gloves, respirators, chemical aprons and face shields
• Physical demands: extensive walking, standing, working in tight spaces, lifting up to 35 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, working at height
