ESH Advisor

About the role

The ESH Advisor will support Mercury’s engineering and construction projects in Geel, Belgium by ensuring health, safety and environmental standards are met on‑site. Reporting to the Sector EHS Manager and the Project EHS Lead, the role combines implementation of Mercury’s safety management system with day‑to‑day supervision of contractors and personnel.

Key responsibilities

• Implement, monitor and ensure compliance with the Mercury Engineering Safety Management system on the project site.
• Apply relevant environmental, health and safety statutory provisions and legislation.
• Develop and enforce project‑specific Environmental, Health & Safety plans, method statements, risk assessments, safe work plans and permit‑to‑work systems.
• Coordinate the execution of the project safety indicator programme and analytical reporting.
• Onboard, audit and manage subcontractors and agency staff to maintain consistent EHS performance.
• Collaborate with the Project Management team to align EHS targets and actions with overall project objectives.

Required profile

• Experience working on construction or engineering projects with a focus on health, safety and environment.
• Ability to work closely with project managers, EHS leads and contractors.
• Strong understanding of statutory EHS requirements and Mercury’s internal EHS policies.
• Proactive attitude towards continuous improvement of safety practices.

Required skills

• Implementation and compliance of EHS management systems.
• Preparation of method statements, risk assessments and safe work plans.
• Permit‑to‑work system administration.
• Auditing and monitoring of subcontractor safety performance.
