Deputy Medical Operations Coordinator

About the role

The Deputy Medical Operations Coordinator supports the Operations Coordinator in shaping the medical vision, strategy and operational coherence of programmes across a dynamic portfolio of countries. Based in Brussels, the role bridges headquarters, cell members and country teams to ensure high‑quality, secure and context‑appropriate medical programming.

Key responsibilities

• Co‑develop a strategic medical vision for each country in the portfolio together with the Operations Coordinator, Country Coordinators and Medical Coordinators.
• Guide and coach Medical Coordinators, ensuring they implement projects with medical relevance and quality.
• Manage additional medical staff in the cell (Medical Officer, Epidemiology Advisor) and allocate work according to the cell set‑up.
• Support complex medical‑operational environments, including outbreak response, security‑sensitive programming and access constraints.
• Participate in strategic decision‑making and co‑decide with the Operations Coordinator on operational choices.
• Ensure continuity of medical support during portfolio transitions and oversee structured hand‑overs.

Required profile

• Proven experience in medical strategy and operational coordination within humanitarian or international development contexts.
• Strong ability to work with multi‑disciplinary teams across headquarters, field offices and country teams.
• Experience handling security‑sensitive programmes, outbreak response and access‑constraint environments.
• Excellent analytical and decision‑making skills, with a focus on quality of care and strategic alignment.
