Data Engineer (Hybrid, 12-month contract)

About the role

Our client in Liège is seeking a Data Engineer on a 12‑month contract to work in a hybrid setting (two days onsite per week). The role focuses on ensuring data quality, optimizing pipelines, and transferring knowledge to the existing team.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement capability‑focused data quality tests covering completeness, thresholds, and referential checks.
• Pair‑program with the current Data Engineer, document processes in README and Confluence, and conduct knowledge‑transfer sessions.
• Performance‑tune data jobs, define data contracts, and recommend schema adjustments to reduce compute costs.
• Investigate and resolve failed loads or quality breaches, coordinating with migration experts and source system owners.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of experience building cloud data pipelines.
• Strong SQL, Python and PySpark expertise, with experience using PowerBI for reporting.
• Familiarity with idempotent or merge‑based ingestion patterns.
• Experience with automated data testing frameworks.
• Excellent communication, documentation, and mentoring skills.
