Competition Associate – Brussels

About the role

DLA Piper is seeking a Competition Associate to join its global competition team in Brussels. The role involves advising clients on a full spectrum of EU competition matters, from merger control to state aid and behavioural issues.

Key responsibilities

• Provide counsel on merger control and EU Foreign Subsidies Regulation (FSR) matters.
• Advise on multijurisdictional foreign direct investment (FDI) and state aid issues.
• Represent clients before the European Commission and national competition authorities in investigations and market studies.
• Handle behavioural and commercial competition law matters.
• Collaborate with the international DLA Piper competition team and act as a trusted business partner for clients.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer in an EU jurisdiction.
• 5‑8 years of competition law experience at a leading law firm.
• Experience across investigations, behavioural, merger control, FDI and FSR work.
• Fluent in English and Dutch.
• Proven ability to develop client relationships and a professional network.

Required skills

• Strong analytical and drafting abilities in competition law contexts.
• Knowledge of EU competition regulations, state aid rules, and merger control procedures.
