Battery Lab Technician – R&D

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Battery Lab Technician to join our Battery Materials Energy Storage team in Ghislenghien, Belgium. The position is based in our on‑site innovation centre and offers the chance to contribute directly to the development of next‑generation lithium‑ion battery technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Fabricate lithium‑ion cells in‑house and perform electrochemical performance testing.
• Collect, document and analyse performance data to support R&D decisions.
• Assist in formulation development and optimisation of battery chemistries.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, ensure compliance with quality standards and SOPs.
• Organise, track and replenish consumables, chemicals and hazardous materials.
• Support installation and commissioning of new testing equipment and methods.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, electrochemistry, chemical engineering or materials science.
• 1‑3 years of research or R&D laboratory experience, preferably in EV battery or energy‑storage industry.
• EU citizenship (EU work‑status required).

Required skills

• Hands‑on experience with controlled‑atmosphere equipment (glovebox).
• Safe handling of hazardous chemicals (powders, nanomaterials, organics, acids/bases).
• Material characterisation techniques: conductivity, BET surface area, TGA, OAN, pycnometry, particle‑size analysis.
• Electrochemical testing and battery fabrication.
• Data generation, documentation and analysis.
