Automation Engineer – Manufacturing Science & Technology

About the role

We are looking for an Automation Engineer to join the Manufacturing Science & Technology (MST) Automation team at Johnson & Johnson in Beerse, Belgium. The role focuses on optimizing and automating manufacturing equipment and processes across the operational technology (OT) landscape.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and implement scalable, reliable automation solutions aligned with ISA‑95 and enterprise architecture standards.
• Integrate equipment into the OT environment, ensuring proper data flow, system interoperability and compliance with GxP and data‑integrity requirements.
• Leverage data from PLC/SCADA, MES and enterprise layers to monitor performance, generate insights and support data‑driven decision‑making.
• Participate in automation and digitalisation projects, translating manufacturing needs into technical requirements and supporting the full lifecycle from design through FAT/SAT to implementation.
• Create and maintain standardized automation documentation in line with validation practices and ISA‑95 models.
• Collaborate with senior engineers, IT, QA and other cross‑functional teams.
• Coach interns and junior engineers, promoting best practices in automation engineering and OT integration.

Required profile

• Engineering degree (e.g., Electrical, Mechanical, or Automation Engineering).
• Experience in automation engineering within a manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge of ISA‑95, GxP compliance and data‑integrity principles.
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams.
