Assistant, Department of Telecommunications and Information Processing

About the role

Ghent University, Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, Department EA07 (Telecommunications and Information Processing), is looking for an assistant for a temporary 50% appointment. The position is advertised as an AAP (academic assistant) post and is open to candidates who want to prepare a doctoral dissertation in telecommunication and information processing while supporting the department.

Key responsibilities

• At least 50% of the work is academic research in preparation of a doctoral dissertation in telecommunication and information processing.
• Assist in teaching activities at the department, in the field of telecommunication and information processing.
• Assist in the internal and external services of the department.

Required profile

• Degree of (preferably) Master of Science in Engineering, held at the start of the appointment; NARIC certificate of equivalence is needed for diplomas awarded outside the EU.
• Interest in academic and/or project-based research and services.
• Teaching experience or participation in extra training, conferences, etc. is recommended.
• Excellent teaching and communication skills, preferably in English and Dutch.

What we offer

• A two-year 50% appointment as an assistant, renewable twice for two years if the previous term received a positive evaluation.
• The 50% appointment is supplemented by a 50% scientific personnel position funded by the department budget, giving a full-time position in the department.
• Remuneration according to salary scale AAP3, starting on 1 December 2026 at the earliest.
