Thesis: Optimizing LED Display Reliability, Lifetime & Power Usage

About the role

Televic Rail is seeking a motivated student to conduct a thesis on improving the reliability, lifetime and power consumption of LED displays used in train passenger information systems. The work will combine research, hardware implementation and experimental validation.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate LED dimming strategies based on displayed content.
• Develop and test automatic brightness tuning using camera feedback.
• Study voltage tuning effects and aging of LEDs.
• Design cooling solutions or circuit optimisations to reduce temperature.
• Propose methods to enhance contrast while maintaining low brightness.
• Explore AI‑based tools to evaluate the above aspects.
• Allocate effort: 50 % research, 30 % implementation, 20 % experimentation.

Required profile

• Enrolled in a Bachelor or Master programme in Electronics, Hardware or a related field.
• Strong interest in research and experimental work.
• Ability to work independently and document results.
