Thermal Engineer

About the role

Redwire Space is seeking a Thermal Engineer to lead the thermal design of spacecraft and related hardware, ranging from small experiments to full‑scale satellite systems. You will work closely with systems engineers and other disciplines to ensure thermal requirements are met throughout the mission lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Perform thermal analyses for launch and orbital scenarios using hand calculations, spreadsheets, and ESATAN TMS.
• Develop and maintain thermal models, ensuring traceability of all calculations and analyses.
• Prepare, execute, and report thermal vacuum (TVAC) tests, correlating test data with analytical models.
• Document analysis results and trade‑off studies in clear thermal analysis reports.
• Provide design recommendations to improve mechanical designs from a thermal perspective.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in engineering, physics, or a related field.
• 2–5 years of experience in thermal engineering with a focus on thermal analysis.
• Strong understanding of heat transfer, space thermal environments, and active thermal control.
• Familiarity with orbital environments and their impact on spacecraft thermal loads.

Required skills

• ESATAN TMS for thermal modeling.
• Thermal analysis and trade‑off reporting.
• Thermal vacuum (TVAC) testing experience.
• Knowledge of heat pipes and advanced thermal control methods.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Programming skills in VBA, Python, or MATLAB.
