Senior software development engineer (Healthcare)

About the role

You will design and develop high‑quality software applications for medical devices, ensuring full regulatory compliance. Working in a cross‑functional agile team, you will own the software from requirements through release and help foster a culture of continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze, design, implement, and test software requirements, architectural decisions, and bug fixes across the full development lifecycle.
• Deliver high‑quality, releasable product increments that meet the definition of done and applicable regulatory standards.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional team members and stakeholders to align business and company goals.
• Provide realistic effort estimates for features and improvements at sprint and longer horizons.
• Drive continuous improvement through active participation in retrospectives.
• Contribute to software‑related records for the Medical Device File and support compliance with standards such as 21 CFR Part 820, EN ISO 13485, EN 62304, EN 82304.
• Help improve and monitor information security for the software and underlying IT infrastructure.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of software development experience.
• Experience in the medical device industry and development of Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) is mandatory.
• Fluent English; Dutch and/or French are a plus.
• Based in Belgium and open to a long‑term freelance or permanent engagement.

Required skills

• Strong proficiency in Python.
• Willingness to work with JavaScript and/or TypeScript.
• Experience with Vue.js (optional).
• Solid fundamentals: design patterns, object‑oriented design, multithreading, asynchronous programming.
• Hands‑on experience with AsyncIO and FastAPI.
• Proven ability to design and maintain automated CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with development tools such as Visual Studio Code and PyCharm.
