Senior Java Engineer

About the role

Senior Java Engineer needed to lead design, development and deployment of enterprise‑grade, AI‑enabled backend applications at Faktion, a leader in AI solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead architecture and implementation of scalable Java/Spring backend systems.
• Collaborate with AI/ML engineers, product managers and business stakeholders to translate requirements into high‑quality software.
• Define and enforce maintenance standards, code reviews and documentation across projects.
• Mentor junior developers and drive technical innovation within the team.
• Ensure performance optimisation, monitoring and incident resolution in production environments.

Required profile

• Excellent written and verbal communication in Dutch and English (French a plus).
• BSc/BA in Computer Science or related field (MSc a plus) with at least 8 years of Java backend experience.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, able to make sound architectural decisions.
• Experience mentoring developers and working in collaborative, agile teams.

Required skills

• Java, OOP, concurrency and RESTful/SOAP API design.
• Spring ecosystem: Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data, Spring Security.
• Hibernate/JPA, Maven or Gradle.
• Microservices, layered and event‑driven architectures.
• Azure and/or AWS cloud services, enterprise application servers (JBoss, WildFly, WebSphere, Oracle Middleware, Tomcat).
• CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions), Docker and Kubernetes.
• Testing frameworks: JUnit, Mockito, Postman or similar integration tools.
