Senior IT System Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Senior IT System Engineer to support a railway infrastructure client’s high‑availability IT environments used in train, tram and metro operations. The role involves providing 2nd‑line system support, maintaining the IT infrastructure, handling incidents, applying updates and patches, and contributing to security and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain, install and configure hardware and software environments.
• Follow up on incidents, failures and changes.
• Perform testing, debugging, updates and patches.
• Provide 2nd‑line support and participate in on‑call rotations.
• Support go‑live and hyper‑care periods, sometimes outside business hours.
• Document technical procedures and keep documentation up to date.

Required profile

• Strong experience in IT infrastructure and system engineering.
• Very good knowledge of Linux (CentOS / RedHat).
• Scripting skills in Bash and/or Python.
• Very good knowledge of VMware, vSphere, vCenter and vMotion.
• Experience in high‑availability production environments.
• Basic network knowledge (router, switch, VPN, firewall).
• Strong troubleshooting and support skills.
• Fluent in Dutch, French and English.
