Senior FPGA Engineer

About the role

Aerospacelab designs and manufactures small satellites and earth observation services, using FPGA-based units such as on-board computers, software-defined radios, image sensors, optical transceivers, network switches and communication payloads. It is looking for a Senior FPGA Engineer to take technical ownership of the gateware for one of its agile development teams, acting as the FPGA technical reference and shaping architecture from system requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Define and own the FPGA design architecture from system requirements, including the main design trade-offs
• Design, simulate, integrate and test RTL code, and review the RTL of others
• Drive the verification strategy (testbenches, on-target tests, CI)
• Write and test software driver code, and write and review technical documentation
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and lead small FPGA teams on complex units
• Interface with EE, RF, operations, embedded software and system teams and represent FPGA in cross-unit decisions

Required profile

• 5 to 10 years of professional experience in FPGA/RTL design, with a track record of delivering validated hardware
• Master's or PhD in Computer, Electronics or Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent through experience
• Proven ability to mentor engineers and provide technical leadership
• Good English and excellent verbal and written skills
• Nice to have: space or high-reliability domain experience, radiation effects knowledge, Embedded-Linux, high-speed transceivers, PCIe or network interfaces, memory interfaces, PCB design and formal verification

Required skills

• Strong RTL programming (VHDL preferred, then Verilog, SystemC, SystemVerilog)
• C and Python
• Full FPGA design flow: synthesis, place & route, timing closure
• Version control and continuous integration (GitLab, Docker)
• Digital signal or image processing
• Lab equipment: power supplies, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers
