Senior Accountant – Freelance (Hasselt)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant on a freelance basis to join a financially strong, fast‑growing company in the Ghent region. You will act as a true business partner, directly influencing financial performance and reporting quality during a key transformation phase.

Key responsibilities

• Take ownership of monthly, quarterly and yearly closing processes.
• Prepare and review VAT returns and tax declarations.
• Ensure accurate Belgian GAAP reporting (IFRS knowledge is a plus).
• Manage balance‑sheet reconciliations and conduct P&L analysis.
• Support audits and serve as the primary contact for external auditors.
• Optimize accounting processes and strengthen internal controls.
• Coach junior team members when required.
• Participate in finance transformation or ERP improvement projects.

Required profile

• 7+ years of accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of Belgian GAAP.
• Background in complex environments such as SMEs, scale‑ups or international groups.
• Hands‑on, autonomous work style with a strong analytical mindset.
• Fluent in Dutch and proficient in English.
• Immediately available or able to start on short notice.
