Security Engineer – Hybrid (Couillet, Belgium)

About the role

The Cybersecurity division of a Walloon intermunicipal organisation is looking for a senior Security Engineer to strengthen its internal and customer security posture. Working in a hybrid model (2‑3 days onsite per week) you will join the internal security team and collaborate closely with technical teams across water, land‑use, economic development and renewable‑energy services.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and optimise the Security Center (SIEM, EDR, vulnerability management) and manage SOC alerts from qualification to escalation.
• Participate in incident response activities, including containment, analysis, remediation and reporting.
• Configure, harden and secure customer environments – servers, networks, cloud platforms and firewalls.
• Maintain and tune security tools such as EDR, IDS/IPS, anti‑malware solutions and develop detection rules, dashboards and playbooks.
• Lead technical safety reviews, apply CIS/ANSSI/NIST hardening benchmarks and produce remediation plans.
• Support NIS2 governance by contributing to risk analyses, policy drafting, audit preparation and KPI reporting.
• Collaborate with system, network, development and support teams to provide security advice on projects.

Required profile

• Senior‑level experience in operational security (SecOps) and SOC environments.
• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to diagnose complex incidents.
• Excellent communication skills for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Fluency in French and English.
