Rust Developer - Remote

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Rust Backend Developer to join a high‑caliber engineering team working on cutting‑edge AI research. This fully remote contract position focuses on designing, building, and refining robust backend APIs that power next‑generation developer tools.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimise REST and GraphQL endpoints for scalable APIs.
• Implement data validation, error handling, and security best practices in backend services.
• Plan and execute database migrations, performance tuning, and schema changes.
• Test AI‑powered models in Cursor, providing detailed incident reports, bug traces, and screenshots.
• Participate in intensive 4‑day testing bursts to evaluate AI impact on coding workflows.
• Collaborate with the research team via Slack, sharing findings and improvement ideas.
• Complete post‑burst surveys delivering insights on model performance and developer experience.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional backend development experience, primarily using Rust.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for clear incident and bug reporting.
• Proven ability to thrive in fast‑paced, confidential, and collaborative remote environments.
• Enthusiasm for AI advancements in software development.

Required skills

• Rust programming language.
