Research Technician – Energy Storage Materials

About the role

We are seeking a motivated Research Technician to join our Battery Materials Energy Storage team in Ghislenghien. The role involves hands‑on work in lithium‑ion battery fabrication, data generation and analysis, and supporting formulation development within a dynamic innovation centre.

Key responsibilities

• Fabricate and test lithium‑ion cells in‑house, performing electrochemical performance assessments.
• Collect, document and analyse performance data to inform R&D decisions.
• Assist in the development and optimisation of battery formulations and chemistries.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, ensure compliance with quality standards and SOPs.
• Organise, track and replenish consumables, chemicals and hazardous materials.
• Support installation, commissioning and validation of new equipment and testing methods.
• Uphold safety procedures and maintain a well‑documented laboratory environment.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, electrochemistry, chemical engineering, materials science or related field.
• 1‑3 years of research or R&D laboratory experience, preferably in the EV battery or energy‑storage industry.
• Hands‑on experience with controlled‑atmosphere equipment such as gloveboxes.
• Knowledge of safe handling of hazardous powders, nanomaterials, organics, acids and bases.

Required skills

• Glovebox operation and controlled‑atmosphere techniques.
• Material‑characterisation methods: conductivity measurement, BET surface‑area analysis, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), OAN, pycnometry, particle‑size analysis.
• Electrochemical testing and lithium‑ion battery fabrication.
• Safe handling of hazardous chemicals and nanomaterials.
