Product Development Engineer – Automotive

About the role

We are looking for a Product Development Engineer specialized in automotive applications to join our engineering team in Diest, Belgium. The role focuses on bringing new vehicle components from concept to production, ensuring they meet market requirements and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct product‑market analysis for automotive applications and define design specifications.
• Develop and validate detailed drawings, ensuring compliance with industry standards and GD&T.
• Launch prototypes, monitor their performance, and coordinate follow‑up activities.
• Perform type‑approval calculations and support certification processes.
• Organise and coordinate cross‑functional teams throughout the development cycle.
• Execute reverse‑engineering projects using scanned data to create accurate CAD models.
• Carry out benchmarking and VAVE studies to drive cost‑effective improvements.

Required profile

• 1.8–3 years of experience in automotive new product development.
• Proven ability to analyse market needs and translate them into design requirements.
• Strong organisational skills and experience coordinating multi‑disciplinary projects.
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as sheet metal, weldments, plastics, castings, tooling and machining.

Required skills

• Good knowledge of GD&T and detailing standards.
• Proficiency with NX or other 3‑D CAD tools (part, surface, assembly, detailing).
• Experience with DFMEA, VAVE and type‑approval calculations.
• Ability to read and interpret complex manufacturing and assembly drawings.
• Competence in reverse engineering from scanned data and benchmarking studies.
