About the role

The Royal Military Academy (RMA) seeks a full‑time postdoctoral researcher in Life Sciences to lead scientific work on telemedicine implementation in operational settings. The position is part of the TELEMED study and involves close collaboration with the Emergency Department of UZ Brussel and the REGEDIM research unit at Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

Key responsibilities

• Collect field data in remote and rustic environments, including travel abroad.
• Perform clinical work related to emergency and telemedicine contexts.
• Analyse and interpret data, producing scientific reports.
• Write and submit scientific papers for peer‑reviewed journals.
• Manage project timelines, resources, and coordination with partner institutions.

Required profile

• Medical Doctor (MD) with a postgraduate degree in Emergency Medicine (MaNaMa/DES) or a General Practitioner with at least five years of emergency or remote‑environment experience.
• Minimum three years of professional experience in relevant fields.
• Willingness to work in field conditions that may involve camping, backpacking, or military vessels.
• Eligibility for Belgian Defence security clearance and NATO/EU nationality.

Required skills

• Experience in extra‑hospital first‑response medicine.
• International work experience.
• Proven experience with telemedicine technologies.
• Strong knowledge of research methodology.
• Fluency in English and either French or Dutch.
