Postdoc on hyperspectral imaging

About the role

This postdoctoral position is part of a multidisciplinary project aimed at classifying materials in waste streams using advanced X‑ray detectors. The research focuses on exploiting both conventional photon‑counting and hyperspectral X‑ray detectors to differentiate metals in mixed waste.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and validate a simulation framework for conventional photon‑counting and hyperspectral X‑ray detectors with high‑Z sensors.
• Conduct sensitivity studies and generate input data for material classification based on experimental measurements.
• Publish research findings in scientific journals and present at international conferences.
• Contribute to the supervision of master’s and PhD students.

Required profile

• PhD (obtained within the last 6 years) in physics, engineering or a related field.
• Experience with experimental setups for high‑resolution X‑ray imaging.
• Strong publication record on photon‑counting X‑ray detectors or related applications.
• Excellent command of English, both spoken and written.

Required skills

• Programming for image processing, analysis and hardware control.
• Knowledge of photon‑counting and hyperspectral X‑ray detector technologies.
• Ability to work independently, learn quickly and solve technical problems.

What we offer

• Indefinite‑duration contract with a maximum term of 30 months, starting 1 Nov 2026 at earliest.
