Policy Officer – Security & Defence Partnerships (Contract Agent)

About the role

The European External Action Service is seeking a Policy Officer to support security and defence cooperation with partners in the Indo‑Pacific region and to address horizontal issues related to EU peace, security and defence partnerships.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement EU security and defence cooperation strategies with third states, international and regional organisations.
• Analyse developments in the Indo‑Pacific region and provide policy recommendations.
• Coordinate with EU delegations, the European Commission, the Council and external partners such as the UN and NATO.
• Prepare briefing notes, reports and policy documents for senior officials.
• Support the High Representative’s mandate on the Common Security and Defence Policy.

Required profile

• University degree in international relations, political science, law or a related field.
• Relevant experience in security, defence or foreign policy, preferably with a focus on the Indo‑Pacific.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a multilingual, multicultural environment.
• Successful completion of the CAST exam.

Required skills

• Strong analytical and drafting abilities for policy documents.
• Good knowledge of EU external action mechanisms and CSDP frameworks.
• Proficiency in English; knowledge of additional EU languages is an asset.
