Medior Nuclear Engineer - Radiological Characterization

About the role

As a Radiological Characterisation Engineer you will be responsible for delivering projects, tasks and studies, acting as the interface between on‑site activities at the Tihange nuclear power plant and the Competence Centre. You will develop characterisation programmes, perform engineering studies and ensure proper follow‑up of projects while working up to three days per week on site.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct radiological characterisation studies in line with client and radioactive waste management agency expectations.
• Monitor and support operation of gamma spectrometry and dose‑rate measurement equipment, building technical expertise.
• Develop and apply capabilities with computer codes such as MicroShield, MCNP, RayXpert and in‑house Python calculation tools.
• Write technical specifications, manage procurement of measurement systems and radiological campaigns.
• Verify colleagues’ work to guarantee high‑quality deliverables and ensure compliance with Integrated Management System procedures.
• Provide regular feedback, contribute to technical bids, and deliver internal presentations and trainings.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or PhD in engineering or sciences, preferably physics.
• At least 5 years of experience in the nuclear sector.
• Fluent in French and English (Dutch is a plus).
• Willingness to work on the Tihange site up to three days per week.
• Strong autonomy combined with a team‑spirit mindset.

Required skills

• Gamma spectrometry and dose‑rate measurement equipment.
• Computer codes: MicroShield, MCNP, RayXpert.
• Python programming for calculations and data treatment.
• Proficiency with MS Office.
