Medior Nuclear Engineer – Radiological Characterisation

About the role

Join Tractebel’s Radiation Protection, Radwaste and Decommissioning Competence Centre as a Medior Engineer focused on radiological characterisation. You will work closely with on‑site teams at the Tihange nuclear power plant and provide high‑level engineering and consultancy services to national and international clients.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct radiological characterisation studies for the Tihange nuclear power plant and other clients.
• Monitor and support operation of gamma spectrometry and dose‑rate measurement equipment, and develop technical expertise.
• Develop and apply computer codes such as MicroShield, MCNP, RayXpert and in‑house Python tools for calculations and data treatment.
• Write technical specifications, manage procurement of measurement systems and oversee radiological campaigns.
• Ensure quality delivery, verify colleagues’ work, and comply with Integrated Management System procedures.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or PhD in engineering or sciences, preferably physics.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in the nuclear sector.
• Fluent in French and English (Dutch is a plus).
• Willingness to work on‑site at Tihange up to three days per week.
• Strong autonomy combined with team spirit and a proactive attitude.

Required skills

• Proficiency with radiation‑related software: MicroShield, MCNP, RayXpert.
• Programming in Python for calculations and data processing.
• Operation of gamma spectrometry and dose‑rate measurement equipment.
• Competence with MS Office tools.
