Mechanical Technician II – Data Center Maintenance

About the role

The Mechanical Technician II will join Google’s Data Center team in Belgium, ensuring the reliable operation of sophisticated mechanical and HVAC systems that keep the facilities running efficiently. This onsite position involves hands‑on maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of critical infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Operate, monitor, and support physical facilities conditions in the data center.
• Inspect, maintain, and repair mechanical components such as chillers, air handling units, pumps, and CRAC/CRAH units.
• Perform material handling tasks, including lifting and moving equipment up to 50 lb.
• Develop and implement cost‑reduction and efficiency‑enhancing initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and ergonomic standards.
• Respond to emergencies and abnormal conditions to minimize downtime.
• Coordinate with contractors performing upgrades or maintenance on data‑center systems.

Required profile

• Associate’s degree, trade‑school certification, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum 5 years of mechanical/HVAC experience in an industrial or commercial environment.
• Ability to work non‑standard hours, rotations, and shifts.
• Physical ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lb and use safety equipment such as harnesses and platforms.

Required skills

• Mechanical/HVAC systems knowledge.
• Experience with chillers, air handling units, pumps, CRAC/CRAH units.
• Proficiency with meters, sensors, digital metering, and calibration/diagnostic equipment.
• Hands‑on troubleshooting using standard hand tools.
• Familiarity with data‑center mechanical infrastructure.
