Mechanical Technician – Data Center Operations

About the role

The Data Center team designs and operates some of the most sophisticated mechanical and HVAC systems in the world. As a Mechanical Technician you will operate, monitor and support physical facilities conditions in a Google data center, ensuring reliable heating, cooling, and power distribution.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain and repair mechanical and non‑critical electrical components such as piping, chillers, air handling units, pumps and CRAC/CRAH units.
• Assist senior technicians by reading blueprints and schematics, conducting system tours and assessing equipment condition.
• Develop and implement cost‑effective solutions to improve data‑center efficiency while meeting environmental and safety standards.
• Respond to emergencies and abnormal conditions, managing performance issues and minimizing outage recovery time.

Required profile

• Associate’s degree, trade school certification or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum 2 years of mechanical or HVAC experience in an industrial or commercial environment.
• Ability to lift and move up to 50 lb (23 kg) and use safety equipment such as platforms, ladders and PPE.
• Willingness to work non‑standard hours, rotations or shifts.
• Preferred: 5 years of maintenance experience on mechanical/cooling distribution systems, preferably in data centers, hospitals or power plants.
