Lifting Supervisor – Crane Operations

About the role

Mercury is seeking a qualified Lifting Supervisor to join its crane team in Mons, Belgium. You will be responsible for overseeing all lifting activities, ensuring they are carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company procedures and legal regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Act as a key member of the crane team, coordinating riggers, crane operators and other personnel.
• Verify that all participants follow the safe system of work and the lifting plan.
• Ensure crane operators are trained, competent and operate within the defined operating criteria.
• Guarantee that the safe working load (SWL) is never exceeded, except under controlled testing.
• Prevent crane operation in weather conditions that exceed the crane’s limits.
• Conduct thorough risk assessments covering environmental factors, obstructions, underground services and overhead structures.
• Prepare lift plans, method statements and ensure appropriate protection measures are in place.
• Confirm that all lifting equipment has a current examination record and that SWL markings are visible.
• Maintain up‑to‑date sling charts, SWL tables and ensure proper communication methods are agreed.
• Provide a trained and competent rigger and secure storage for slings when not in use.

Required profile

• Proven experience in supervising crane and lifting operations on construction sites.
• Strong knowledge of lifting regulations, safe working load calculations and weather limitations.
• Ability to conduct detailed risk assessments and develop lift plans.
• Excellent communication skills to coordinate multiple parties during lifts.
• Commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
