Legal Counsel – Fintech Payments

About the role

As a Legal Counsel you will join the Corporate Legal team of WorxInvest, focusing on all legal and regulatory matters related to HR Pay Solutions. You will work at the intersection of law, fintech, payments and HR services, providing strategic advice to senior management.

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert legal advice on financial and prudential regulations applicable to payment institutions, including PSD2/PSD3, AML/CFT, safeguarding, governance and outsourcing requirements.
• Monitor, interpret and translate regulatory developments from authorities such as the NBB, ECB and EBA into internal policies, procedures, impact assessments and actionable recommendations.
• Collaborate with senior management, Compliance & Risk and other legal team members to ensure compliance and mitigate legal risks.
• Support licensing conditions, regulatory reporting obligations and interactions with supervisory authorities.
• Offer legal support for the development of new products, services and partnerships within the payments and fintech ecosystem.
• Draft, review and negotiate contracts with banks, payment service providers, card schemes, vendors and strategic partners.
• Coordinate and manage external legal counsel when required.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Belgian Law.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in a law firm, financial institution, payment institution, fintech or a similar regulated environment.
• Strong knowledge of financial regulation for payment services and institutions, with experience or strong affinity for AML, governance, outsourcing and third‑party risk.
• Ability to translate complex regulatory frameworks into pragmatic, business‑oriented solutions.
• Independent yet collaborative working style, ownership mindset and long‑term perspective.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Fluency in English and Dutch; French or other languages are an asset.
