Legal Counsel – Fintech Payments

About the role

As a Legal Counsel you will join the Corporate Legal team of a fast‑growing fintech platform, focusing on all legal and regulatory matters linked to HR Pay Solutions. You will work at the intersection of law, payments, and HR services, providing direct impact on product development and business strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert advice on financial and prudential regulations applicable to payment institutions, including PSD2/PSD3, AML/CFT, safeguarding, governance and outsourcing.
• Monitor, interpret and translate regulatory updates from authorities such as the NBB, ECB and EBA into internal policies, procedures and impact assessments.
• Collaborate with senior management, Compliance & Risk and other legal colleagues to ensure compliance and mitigate legal risk.
• Support licensing conditions, regulatory reporting and interactions with supervisory authorities.
• Assist in the development of new products, services and partnerships within the payments and fintech ecosystem.
• Draft, review and negotiate contracts with banks, payment service providers, card schemes, vendors and strategic partners, and manage external counsel when needed.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Belgian Law.
• Minimum five years of experience in a law firm, financial institution, payment institution, fintech or a similarly regulated environment.
• Strong knowledge of financial regulation for payment services and institutions, with experience or strong affinity for AML, governance, outsourcing and third‑party risk.
• Ability to translate complex regulatory frameworks into pragmatic, business‑oriented solutions.
• Fluency in English and Dutch; French or other languages are an asset.
