Lead System Engineer – Defense Systems

About the role

Our client in the defence sector is seeking a Lead System Engineer Consultant to drive the development and delivery of complex, mission‑critical systems. You will act as the technical focal point between the customer, project management and engineering teams, ensuring solutions meet operational, performance, quality and contractual requirements throughout the full lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate a multidisciplinary team of 10‑15 system, software, hardware and integration engineers.
• Define and maintain system architecture, requirements and technical baselines.
• Manage system engineering activities across the complete V‑cycle development process.
• Translate customer and operational needs into technical requirements and system specifications.
• Ensure requirements traceability, consistency and verification readiness.
• Coordinate interfaces between internal disciplines and external stakeholders.
• Conduct technical, design and engineering decision board reviews.
• Identify, assess and mitigate technical risks and opportunities.
• Support project planning, resource allocation and workload prioritisation.
• Guarantee compliance with defence, safety, cybersecurity and quality standards.
• Contribute to proposals, feasibility studies and technical road‑maps.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading system‑engineering teams of 10‑15 engineers.
• Strong ability to act as the technical liaison between customers, project managers and engineering groups.
• Experience with full V‑cycle development in defence or security domains.
• Excellent analytical skills for risk assessment and mitigation.
