Junior Researcher – Interoperability and Architecture Design

About the role

The Royal Military Academy is seeking a full‑time Junior Researcher to join the iMUGS2 project, a European defence initiative focused on next‑generation unmanned ground systems. You will work within the Robotics & Autonomous Systems research unit, contributing to multi‑agent collaboration and modular architecture development.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and implementation of interoperable, open, modular multi‑agent architectures for the project’s System‑of‑Systems.
• Study, integrate, and evaluate optimal multi‑robot planning algorithms.
• Define communication interfaces for information exchange among agents.
• Support testing, validation, and integration of solutions with ROS/ROS2 on real vehicles.
• Prepare and participate in on‑site demonstrations and field trials at European military sites.
• Document research outcomes and contribute to scientific publications, deliverables, and project reports.

Required profile

• Master’s or Engineer’s degree in Robotics, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Junior level (0‑3 years) or up to 10 years of experience in relevant research.
• Strong interest in defence‑related autonomous systems and collaborative autonomy.

Required skills

• Experience with ROS and ROS2.
• Knowledge of multi‑agent systems and interoperability standards.
• Familiarity with multi‑robot planning algorithms.
