Junior Cyber Security Engineer (SIEM) – 9‑Month Contract in Brussels

About the role

We are seeking a motivated Junior Cyber Security Engineer to join a high‑impact project supporting a major Belgian government organisation in Brussels. This contract offers early‑career engineers real responsibility on a public‑sector project from day one, working in a secure environment that directly serves national services and citizens.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and tune a SIEM platform (Splunk preferred or alternative)
• Perform incident response activities and manage case workflows
• Utilise SOC automation tools to streamline security operations
• Work with cyber‑threat intelligence platforms such as MISP or OpenCTI
• Support EDR/XDR solutions and contribute to detection improvements
• Develop scripts (PowerShell, Python, Bash) to automate repetitive tasks

Required profile

• Minimum 1 year of hands‑on experience in a cyber security role
• Practical experience with a SIEM platform (Splunk highly preferred)
• Good understanding of incident response and case management
• Exposure to SOC automation tools
• Familiarity with CTI platforms (MISP or OpenCTI)
• Basic experience with EDR/XDR solutions
• Ability to write scripts in PowerShell, Python, Bash or similar
