IT Officer (Research IT Support & Systems)

About the role

We are seeking a motivated IT Officer to join our local IT team at the VIB Center for AI & Computational Biology in Leuven. You will provide practical technical support to researchers and staff, ensuring reliable, secure and user‑friendly IT services on the Campus Gasthuisberg.

Key responsibilities

• Manage onboarding and off‑boarding of users and devices.
• Provide 2nd line support for hardware, software and network issues.
• Support seminars and events with IT infrastructure and troubleshooting.
• Handle hardware lifecycle: procurement, deployment and asset tracking.
• Identify and implement improvements to IT services with a focus on end‑user experience.
• Coordinate with KU Leuven ICTS, GBIOMED IT, VIB and external partners.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT or equivalent experience.
• Strong troubleshooting mindset and ability to learn new technologies quickly.
• Excellent communication skills in Dutch and English.
• Responsible, detail‑oriented and customer‑service focused.

Required skills

• Client operating systems: Windows, macOS, Linux (Ubuntu, Rocky Linux).
• Basic networking knowledge (IP, DNS, connectivity troubleshooting).
• Microsoft 365 suite, including Teams and SharePoint.
• Familiarity with ticketing systems, device‑management platforms and monitoring tools.
• Scripting basics: PowerShell, Python, Bash.
