Full Stack Developer – Backend Focus (Hybrid, Brussels)

About the role

POLITICO is looking for an experienced Full Stack Developer with a strong backend orientation to join our technology team in Brussels. The role is full‑time and hybrid (four days in the office, one day remote), focusing on building and scaling the services that power our POLITICO Pro platform.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop backend services and APIs that support political intelligence delivery.
• Build and improve data processing pipelines, background jobs, and message‑queue‑based systems.
• Contribute to frontend applications using modern JavaScript frameworks when needed.
• Work with cloud infrastructure, serverless architectures, and infrastructure‑as‑code tools.
• Participate in the evolution of AI‑enabled features such as Retrieval‑Augmented Generation pipelines and speech‑recognition processing.

Required profile

• Strong experience building complex backend systems or multi‑service architectures.
• Excellent software engineering fundamentals and system design skills.
• Comfortable reasoning about programming languages, systems, and architecture.
• Ability to work across multiple parts of the stack in an agile environment.

Required skills

• JavaScript (modern web development).
• Frontend frameworks: React or Vue.
• Understanding of asynchronous systems (message queues, distributed services, background processing).
• Experience with backend service design and API development.
