Freelance Financial Controller & Accountant

About the role

This freelance position offers a senior‑level professional the chance to lead financial controlling and accounting activities for a multinational entity based in Ghent. You will work closely with operational teams and finance colleagues across Europe to ensure accurate reporting and robust financial controls.

Key responsibilities

• Lead month‑end, quarter‑end and year‑end closing for the assigned legal entity.
• Prepare and analyse management reports, dashboards and variance analyses.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and financial planning processes.
• Perform analytical accounting reviews and ensure transaction accuracy.
• Monitor inventory movements, stock valuations and purchase order flows.
• Reconcile stock, goods receipts and supplier invoices, resolving discrepancies.
• Review balance‑sheet accounts and execute account reconciliations.
• Collaborate with operational teams to improve financial transparency and cost control.
• Assist internal and external audit requests and contribute to process improvements.
• Ensure compliance with group accounting policies and reporting standards.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years of experience in finance, controlling or accounting.
• Strong background in financial controlling combined with operational accounting.
• Experience in multinational or international organisations.
• Ability to work independently in a fast‑paced environment and engage with stakeholders at all levels.
• Professional proficiency in English and Dutch.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel (financial modelling and data analysis).
• Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Microsoft Dynamics or Oracle.
• Familiarity with reporting and BI tools.
• Knowledge of IFRS reporting.
