Freelance CISO Consultant for Banking Sector

About the role

afarax is seeking a freelance Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) to act as a consultant for a banking client. You will help the organization understand its cyber‑risk exposure, design a multi‑year security strategy, and guide implementation across subsidiaries.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and communicate the organization’s cybersecurity risk profile.
• Develop a multi‑year security roadmap aligned with Belgian/EU regulations.
• Provide on‑demand advice on cyber risks, investment priorities, and remediation actions.
• Translate complex security requirements into practical, hands‑on guidance for subsidiaries.
• Track remediation progress, identify issues, and drive resolution.
• Facilitate collaboration between internal departments, the client, and third‑party providers.
• Prepare concise deliverables and communication kits for senior management.

Required profile

• Relevant professional certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISA, CRISC).
• Fluency in English, Dutch and French.
• Proven experience designing and implementing security programs in regulated, complex environments.
• Deep knowledge of EU cyber regulations (DORA, NIS2, EBA/ECB) and standards (ISO 27001, NIST CSF).
• Strong analytical and deductive reasoning abilities.

Required skills

• Cloud security (AWS, Azure).
• Identity & Access Management (IAM) frameworks.
• SIEM/EDR deployment and threat‑intelligence integration.
• Network security, vulnerability and patch management.
• Project and change‑management frameworks (Prince2, ITIL, ADKAR) – considered a plus.
