About the role
We are seeking a Fiber Designer to join SII Belgium’s telecom team. You will own the high‑level architecture and detailed implementation of fiber optic networks, supporting Agile squads that deliver large‑scale telecom projects.
Key responsibilities
- Lead High‑Level Design (HLD) of backbone and FTTx fiber architectures, ensuring scalability, resilience and cost‑efficiency.
- Translate business and technical requirements into HLD documents, including logical network maps, service flows, technology stacks and capacity plans.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define topology, failover strategies and service levels while respecting regulatory constraints.
- Evaluate new technologies and integrate innovative design approaches to keep fiber configurations up‑to‑date.
- Maintain accurate fiber asset data using GIS and inventory tools; familiarity with QGIS and/or AutoCAD is a plus.
- Provide expert insights on deployment feasibility, quality controls and performance validation to cross‑functional teams.
- Contribute to the standardisation and evolution of design frameworks supporting network growth.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Telecom, Electronics, ICT or a related engineering field.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in telecom and fiber optic design, covering both HLD and LLD processes.
- Strong knowledge of PON technology, FTTx networks and backbone infrastructure.
- Fluent in English and Dutch.
- Motivation for innovation, sustainability and continuous improvement in telecom infrastructure.
- Familiarity with Agile working methods and participation in technical strategy discussions.
