ESG & Impact Officer – Sustainable Finance

About the role

The European Development Finance Institutions Management Company (EDFI MC) is seeking an ESG & Impact Officer to join a dedicated four‑person team. You will support the investment process by assessing and managing environmental, social and governance (ESG) and impact dimensions of private debt and equity investments across a range of sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct in‑depth ESG and impact analysis for high‑risk debt and quasi‑equity investments in sectors such as mining, infrastructure, agribusiness and forestry.
• Manage the scope, deliverables and monitoring of independent environmental and social consultants.
• Support portfolio companies in implementing ESG management systems and action plans.
• Improve EDFI MC’s ESG & Impact policies, processes and tools, ensuring compliance.
• Facilitate third‑party ESG and impact assessments and evaluations.
• Contribute to EDFI MC’s Impact Report, internal presentations, annual ESG reports to the European Commission and case studies.
• Represent EDFI MC at sector‑level initiatives and conferences related to ESG and impact.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Economics, International Development, Political Science, Environmental Sciences or a related field.
• 3–7 years of experience in development finance institutions, ESG consulting or impact investing.
• Proven experience applying IFC Performance Standards in high‑risk projects.
• Familiarity with developing and emerging market contexts.
• Strong command of ESG risk assessment methodologies, ESMS evaluation and impact measurement frameworks (OPIM, SDGs, theory of change).
• Excellent written and spoken English; French or Spanish is a plus.

Required skills

• Proficiency with data‑analysis tools such as Excel and Power BI.
• Experience with the Joint Impact Model (JIM) is an asset.
• Ability to draft high‑quality written outputs in English (investment papers, monitoring reports, stakeholder communications).
