Energy-Efficient On‑Sensor Signal Processing for Railway Bearing Monitoring (Thesis)

About the role

Televic Rail is seeking a Master‑level student to conduct a thesis on ultra‑low‑power on‑sensor signal processing for wireless bearing monitoring in railway applications. The work will focus on designing and validating an embedded processing pipeline that runs on a battery‑powered Cortex‑M4 accelerometer.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement signal‑processing algorithms (e.g., multiscale FFT, peak detection, band‑energy indicators) compatible with Cortex‑M4 constraints.
• Quantify and model the energy consumption of processing versus wireless transmission.
• Optimize the trade‑off between diagnostic performance and battery lifetime.
• Validate the solution through experiments on the COSAMIRA Edge ecosystem.

Required profile

• Enrolled in a Master program in Electronics, Embedded Systems or a related field.
• Strong interest in low‑power embedded design and railway condition monitoring.

Required skills

• Cortex‑M4 microcontroller architecture.
• FFT and other spectral analysis techniques.
