EMC Engineer

About the role

The EMC Engineer will support Alstom’s railway projects by ensuring electromagnetic compatibility of all products. Working within the Site Train/Traction System team, you will be responsible for applying EMC design rules and guaranteeing compliance throughout the product lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Enforce EMC design and manufacturing rules across projects.
• Prepare clause‑by‑clause analyses of customer specifications and cost estimates during tenders.
• Write EMC Transverse Requirements Specifications and EMC Control Plans, allocating requirements to subsystems.
• Verify product designs, including architecture, subsystem layout, electrical interfaces and HV/MV/LV cabling.
• Develop and review EMC test specifications, laboratory and field test plans.
• Validate EMC test reports from suppliers and perform EMC testing on benches or on‑site.
• Assemble EMC Compliance Files at project completion and resolve any EMC issues.
• Contribute to the improvement of guidelines, design rules, reference solutions and simulation tools.
• Lead or support EMC research and development actions.

Required profile

• Engineering degree (preferably with a specialization in EMC).
• 2–3 years of experience in electromagnetic compatibility within the railway or power electronics sector.
• Familiarity with EMC standards, design rules and testing procedures.

Required skills

• Power electronics and electrotechnics.
• Railway systems – rolling stock, traction equipment, signalling and communication equipment.
• Sources of electromagnetic disturbances and EMC phenomena.
• EMC design rules and standards.
• EMC testing procedures, instrumentation and practice.
• EMC numerical simulation tools.
