Legal Counsel – Financial Services

About the role

Reporting to the Head of Legal, you will provide day‑to‑day legal support to various business units, advise on strategic regulatory projects, and handle matters related to banking, finance, intellectual property, IT and outsourcing contracts.

Key responsibilities

• Provide daily legal assistance to teams such as Corporate Secretary, Compliance, Investment Banking and Private Banking.
• Advise on group strategic and regulatory implementation projects from inception to rollout.
• Support management on banking, financial and corporate regulatory issues.
• Assist with intellectual property, IT and outsourcing contracting matters.
• Draft, review and recommend legal and contractual documentation, templates and forms.
• Monitor claims and litigation files and ensure proper follow‑up.
• Stay updated on developments in banking, finance, civil and commercial law and organise training sessions.
• Identify, assess and manage legal opportunities in line with local laws and best practices.
• Collaborate closely with the three other sub‑teams within the Legal Department.

Required profile

• Belgian Master in Law with at least 5 years of relevant experience in an in‑house legal department of a financial institution or a law firm.
• Fluent in French, good knowledge of Dutch and English.
• Analytical thinker with strong business acumen, objectivity and accountability.
• Ability to translate complex legal principles into pragmatic, solution‑oriented advice.
• Team player who can build strong relationships across legal and business departments.
• Process‑oriented, autonomous, with excellent organisational and communication skills.
