Branch Head – Accounting & Finance

About the role

The Office of Financial Control seeks a senior leader to head the Accounting and Finance Branch. You will direct four specialised units, ensuring NATO’s civil and associated budgets are managed in full compliance with international standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the redesign of financial processes and optimise ERP systems, delivering measurable efficiency gains.
• Standardise reporting by transitioning legacy workflows to an ERP‑driven, audit‑ready environment.
• Defend financial statements during external audits and negotiate policy adoption with diverse stakeholders.
• Oversee accurate and timely processing of all financial transactions across NATO’s International Staff.
• Act as deputy to the Financial Controller, exercising delegated authority on high‑level decisions.

Required profile

• University degree in economics, accounting, finance or a related field.
• Professional accounting certification from a recognised chartered institute.
• Minimum 10 years of progressive accounting and financial management experience, with at least 5 years in team leadership.
• Fluent in English and French (Advanced in one, Intermediate in the other).
• Experience in international organisations or governmental bodies is preferred.
