About the role
The EU Advocacy Assistant internship supports the International Rescue Committee’s EU Advocacy team in shaping policy and advocacy work at the European level. Working under the EU Advocacy Director, you will gain hands‑on experience in monitoring EU policy, drafting advocacy materials, and coordinating stakeholder engagements.
Key responsibilities
- Monitor EU policy developments on migration, asylum, refugees, humanitarian aid and development cooperation.
- Conduct desk research and prepare background analyses on relevant EU policy issues.
- Track developments across EU institutions, including the European Commission, Parliament and Council.
- Support drafting of advocacy briefings, position papers, talking points, communications pieces and policy notes.
- Assist in preparing external advocacy documents and internal strategy papers.
- Maintain and update internal advocacy tracking tools, records and databases.
- Help organise meetings, events, lobby tours and stakeholder engagement activities.
- Take notes and follow‑up on actions from internal and external meetings.
Required profile
- Authorized to work in Belgium at the time of application.
- Strong interest in EU policymaking, refugee and migration issues, and humanitarian advocacy.
- Solutions‑driven, passionate about making a positive impact.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
