Mechanical Designer – Centrifugal Compressors

About the role

Atlas Copco Group is seeking a Mechanical Designer to join its specialized team in Wilrijk, focusing on next‑generation direct‑drive and integrally geared centrifugal compressors. You will be responsible for the full engineering of compressor cores, from concept to prototype.

Key responsibilities

• Develop complete compressor core designs, managing large assemblies and detailed drawings.
• Create and maintain accurate Bill of Materials (BOM) for each project.
• Build complex, structured CAD models and generate parametric variants.
• Perform basic Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and mechanical calculations to validate designs.
• Collaborate with project teams, incorporate production feedback, and support prototype assembly.
• Design custom solutions for high‑performance applications where marginal gains are critical.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical design experience.
• Strong attitude, willingness to learn on the job, and ability to work in a hybrid environment.
• Professional fluency in English or Dutch; occasional travel abroad may be required.

Required skills

• Advanced CAD modeling, preferably with CATIA.
• Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Familiarity with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems (a plus).
• Basic Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and mechanical calculation skills.
